The Joy of Companionship with the Holy Spirit

I've recently gained a deep appreciation for my friends that I can simply run errands with, those friends who I can just do life with because I enjoy their company so much. I have a friend named Journi who lives close by. Between my hectic schedule and her life as a momma of two kids under the age of five, it's not uncommon for us to get our quality time in while running to the grocery store, heading to the library or getting together to cook a meal. There's no pressure to entertain or be entertained.

During our time together, we experience a comfort that allows us to have meaningful conversations or quietly revel in shared silence without any feelings of awkwardness. There have been instances when she and I have gotten together just to journal and verbally process our emotions. When I tell Journi about the latest goofy thing I've done, I can sense that she knows me well enough to feel the second-hand embarrassment. Her friendship is one of those blessings that snuck up on me and quickly became one of my favorite things that God has done for me recently.

When I think about the ease of my friendship with Journi, I'm reminded of the precious gift Jesus gave us by giving us access to do life with the Holy Spirit along the same lines. Over time, as I've spent time with the Holy Spirit, I've learned that He actually wants to be invited into what I would consider the mundane parts of my existence. He doesn't get tired of me. He loves me so deeply and as much as I crave time and attention from God, He wants it from me even more.

The more I draw away to pray and worship, I feel this intense love and affection that He has for me and it leaks into every aspect of my life. I used to pray and ask God for things as though I had to convince him that my concerns were worth tending to. Yet with this growing understanding of His extravagant LOVE for me, I approach my prayer time as though I'm speaking to someone who is more invested in my well-being than I can even fathom. Of course He would do anything for me. I'm not a beggar with Him. He always grants me His undivided attention and always has answers. He loves hearing from me and He loves when I just want to spend time with him.

He is my father, friend, teacher, confidant and so much more. It has become so real to me that I was made for relationship with Him like this. I was made to spend every moment with Him. As I dig into the Word with this awareness, I can see that everything He's done has been to provide me access to this kind of relationship with Him. He wants the same for you.

Let this be your personal invitation into a deeper relationship with Him. I pray that it stirs up an insatiable desire to spend time with the Holy Spirit and to get to know him better than your closest friend. I pray that the revelation of His limitless love for you sinks so deep into your heart that you instinctively begin to trust Him with every single thing. Take a moment today, if you haven't already, or even if you have, and just acknowledge God's presence. He wants to be understood and invited into every moment. He wants you to experience His peace and joy. If you are not currently experiencing Him this way, I challenge you to make time for Him today!
